According to Ashish Nehra, K.L Rahul should open with Mayank Agarwal.

India tour of Australia: Ashish Nehra looks upon an opening partnership between Mayank Agarwal and K.L Rahul in Adelaide Vs Australia. The former Pacer prefers the in-form K.L Rahul to get the responsibility ahead of Subhuman Gill or Prithvi Shaw and open with Mayank Agarwal in the Border Gavaskar series, as the duo can provide a dominating opening stand to give the rest of the batsmen to follow up and can help India be in a comfortable position in their innings. Ashish Nehra also added that with the kind of form K.L Rahul is in, can become a major strength for India that could reverse situations in favour of India from the word Go.

With K.L Rahul making his comeback to the Test squad after not having played for one year and has made himself adept in the limited-overs edition, by not only scoring runs, but also the fashion of how he builds his innings with his traditional cricketing shots that caught the eyes of the left-handed batting legend, Brian Lara the other day when he was asked about who his favourite player is in the Border Gavaskar series.

Rahul was the orange Cap holder for the recently concluded IPL 2020 smashing 670 runs at an average of 55.83 that included 5 fifties and a phenomenal century that helped his team get over the 200 run mark against RCB, resulting in a dominant victory.

There are still questions with regards to the opening par of India, as to who can play alongside Mayank Agarwal. Ashish retorts that it is not a weakness to not be confident about the confirmed opening pair, but rather it’s a matter of concern for Captain Kohli and the coach Ravi Shastri. Subhuman Gill and Prithvi Shaw are being looked at for the matter, but he strongly believes that K.L is the right fit along with Mayank to get India to a flyer opening partnership. If K.L Rahul can score runs for the kind of form he posses, then the weakness can be converted to strength for India.

Rahul is a much deserving player to get a shot in the India playing 11, especially for the kind of form he is in the limited-overs format and also for the talent he has. Mayank Agarwal has proved to be superior in tests for India and has amassed 974 runs in 11 tests with an average of 57.29 that includes 3 hundred and four fifties.

According to Ashish Nehra, Mayank Agarwal has been playing a couple of incredible and match-winning innings for India in the previous tour. Alongside him was K.L Rahul who does make some manner of sense when it comes to playing a considerable inning, but has not had the best of runs for India in tests in the previous year and certain occasions have been dropped too. The current tour is an opportunity for Rahul.

Team Selectors will be looking at this situation very closely as far as winning a test match is concerned. If the selectors are in a mindset of winning, that winning mentality has to be seen in the players who can compete against a side, that is dominant in their backyard.
