Will Smith and former co-star of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” Janet Hubert are relieved and wish not to have such tensions anymore in her life after having bid farewell to this tension that lasted decades. The highlight of the reunion was when Smith and Hubert were making peace in the presence of Tatyana Ali, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Karyn Parsons, and Alfonso Ribeiro.
Smith told the other cast members that they never talk publicly about Janet and what had happened. Smith further adds to his statement with a deep sigh of relief that he could not celebrate three decades of Fresh Prince without celebrating Janet. So, Smith and Janet decided to sit down, have a conversation.
They saw each other for the time in 27 years and made eye contact. Smith, aged 52, and Hubert, 64, enjoyed a long hug, with Tatyana Ali acknowledging that it’s been a while seeing them two smile and look at each other.
Hubert played Aunt Viv’s role until she departed in 1993, and for the next three years, Reid took on the position for the next three seasons till the finale in 1996. Smith and Hubert, in the last few years, have only exchanged barbs. In the 2011 TMZ, Hubert said that she would not participate in a reunion because she has nothing to do with a brutal person like Will Smith.
When Hubert was pregnant in the third season, there were many things in hers and Will Smith’s life, as Hubert stated during the recently concluded reunion. Experience at home was never too comforting, and there were no laughter, smile, or jokes, as there were things that were going on no one was aware of; even the cast who worked alongside Hubert was unaware of what was going on.
Smith replied very regretfully that while she was pregnant, he was less sensitive and was not insightful. Now having three kids, Smith was way more knowledgeable and would do things differently, which he was unaware of at that time. He now realizes how difficult he made the environment around Janet.
Hubert also told the media adding to the reason for her departure was not only a maternity leave and Will Smith but also that the show team cut her salary post the third season and was offered a pretty lousy deal. As per her explanation, she was not fired but felt no other choice but to reject the offer, leading the producers to recast the role.
The actress of General Hospital said that the experience led to make her feel that she was being disowned by Hollywood and was also told that Will Smith eliminated her. All of the negative thoughts and anguish was taken by the words Will Smith said during the reunion, as stated by Hubert to the Independence Day Star.
Words do kill. She felt she had lost everything, even reputation. Those words relating to a Black Woman in the entertainment industry could be a much heftier burden to carry. She is glad that she can happily move forward and apologize to Will Smith for breaking him into pieces. Will Smith thanked Hubert for sharing her story and was delighted to have celebrated her contribution to the show and even his life. Will Smith said that he wants to be the person who protects people, but no someone who releases dogs on someone. Fans are still fond of the Fresh Prince. All the six sessions of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the reunion are currently available on HBO max.
