Melbourne: Ricky Ponting earlier said that there were no demons in the Melbourne pitch, but it has been a poor batting display by the Australian batsmen, according to the legendary Ricky Ponting, and was furious at the hosts for playing rash shots against a supreme Indian bowling attack in the second test.
India is eyeing to win their first test match of in the tour to level series after reducing Australia to 133 for Six at stumps on Day 3. The hosts have just taken a 2 run lead with four wickets left to spare, heading to the penultimate day.
Ponting felt way too disappointed with the way Australian batsmen have been journeying so far in the last two tests. More than Australia’s batting is the strength of Indian bowling that has got the better of the Australian batsmen. Ricky Ponting also mentioned that the pitch is not to be blamed and moreover the day seems quite perfect. It could be a little bit of spin that is expected on Day three of a test match. Although the pitch has not been offering much to the fast bowlers, a very poor batting performance by Australia so far as quoted by Ponting.
The former captain believes that Australians were not energetic and smart enough to counter the Indian bowlers in this match. Ricky Ponting adds that it is one of those reasons that he thinks that Aussies have got themselves out by playing loose shots and we’re unable to tick the scoreboard on a daily sufficient basis. Pressure could build up. When it has got over the batsmen’s head, that urge comes from within that forces you to play a bad shot. This was talked about in the first innings, specifically the way Australia has played Ravichandran Ashwin. No batsmen have actively faced Ravi Ashwin and have always been vulnerable to his line and lengths. It may have been good bowling, but as a batsman, one has to take more risks against the best bowlers. It is very unlikely to see Ashwin and other Indian bowlers bowl poorly.
Ricky Ponting has made very obvious points with regards to the batting of Australia, who has not even touched the 200 run mark n any of their innings, except the one they had to chase 90. India has been consistent or rather even better in thier way of batting the Australians down with their defense. The first-ever player to score a test century of the Aussie summer was Ajinkya Rahane who has led his team from the front and got cout the best out of every player be it in batting or bowling.
India has a great opportunity to get their first test victory, but more than that it’s the resilience and the ability to fight back after a humiliating second inning against Australia that changed the course of the match in a matter of an hour.
Ponting and the Australian Cricket Fans wi be hoping to see Australia extend their lead and ask India to chase a reasonable target, and hopefully disturb their batsmen as they did in the previous test.
